This is a venture run jointly between St Lawrence’s
Parish church and the Methodist, with volunteers from both churches.
It is designed to be a place where both parents, carers and children
get together to have fun, be creative, worship and have a meal
together. Our target age range is 5 -11 but younger brothers and
sisters, even if they are tiny, are welcome too.
We meet once a month on the second Wednesday, in the Methodist
church hall, (but not during August).
A rough timetable is as follows:
3:30
pm –4:00 pm
welcome, drinks & biscuits, and table top games
4:00 pm – 5:00 pm
Craft activities with a biblical theme
5:00 pm – 5.15 pm
a fun worship time for all ages
in the church using some of the things we have created
5.15 pm – 6:00 pm
a simple celebration meal.
The idea is
that parents don’t have go home and cook! (vegetarian option
available)
So far we have been exploring Abraham & Sarah’s journey,
and the story of Joseph. We’ve made nomadic hats, blown dream
pictures, made and decorated present boxes, planted journey footsteps,
made a galaxy collage, put together a HUGE technicolor dreamcoat,
made mosaic pictures, banners, and streamers, and generally had
a really good time. A singing camel featured large in the last
worship!
It’s not an after-school club, a Sunday school on another
day, or even a family based fun event, although it has elements
of all these – the clue is in the title – it is CHURCH
but creative, (sometimes a little chaotic but bags of fun) and
yes – MESSY!!!!
We make no charge for the sessions, but do ask for a donation
to help us to cover the cost of materials and the meal. However
to assist us with the planning and catering we are requesting that
families book via the Parish Office on (01923) 261 795 or via email
: stlawrence@fish.co.uk – so
that we have some idea of numbers, because we are fast approaching
the maximum number we can comfortably accommodate.
