John was born 5th March 1925 in Gillingham, Kent, the youngest of four brothers. His father being a naval man, John was educated in various locations. On leaving school at 16 he started in engineering and at the age of 18 he was called up for service in the RAF, serving until 1946, including six months in the Fleet Air Arm. John was also active in the Scouting Movement and became Scoutmaster.
John continued his engineering career and in 1955 when his parents died moved to Watford to live near his aunt in Abbots Langley. In 1984 the company moved to the Midlands and John took early retirement rather than move with them.
Retirement meant he had to occupy himself in some way and slowly several hobbies opened up, for instance Meals on Wheels distribution in Bushey which led to becoming involved in WRVS work, and he joined the Herts Major Incident Emergency Team. He was very active in the RAF Association Branch in Watford, and was a steward for twenty two years at the Chiltern Open Air Museum.
John's interest in the Methodist church, of which he had been a member in his youth, was again reborn and he was active as a Sunday School teacher at Harebreaks Church for several years, and also became active at the Abbots Langley Methodist Church. John made very many friends in Watford and Bushey and thoroughly enjoyed all he gave and received.
The Service of Thanksgiving for the life of John Johnson took place on 9th April.
